Charlie Blackmon is NOT the reason the Colorado Rockies are losing | Rox Pile
As the Rockies season seems to be slipping away, many are starting to assign blame, tossing it around willy nilly. One point of contention exists over Charlie Blackmon’s contract. Yes, it was an expensive extension, but he’s played like he’s worth it. In a season where the Rockies are falling apart, Blackmon has remained one of the most consistent elements on the team. Colorado has had some awful stretches, including starting the season 2-13 and going 5-15 since July 2. However, they’ve done okay for the rest of the season, with the bad sections being attributed largely to poor pitching. The only upside that would come from trading Blackmon would be the potential money the Rockies could use to buy a pitcher. This probably would not happen, as this has not been the kind of move the Rockies have historically made. Getting rid of Blackmon would not fix much for Colorado.
The internet is not always a friendly place, and given the season the Rockies have had, they are experiencing this first hand. Social media allows for a non-stop barrage of insults and critique. The Rockies players try to block it out, recognizing that they shouldn’t allow themselves to get caught up in the negativity. The team tries to have a positive official social media presence, engaging with the followers who bring up real concerns in an appropriate way. The players are also happy when they can have positive interactions with fans. It’s a tough time to be in the spotlight, but the Rockies try to use it in a positive manner.
