Colorado Rockies game no. 127 thread: Tim Melville vs. Mike Leake

The Rockies look to avoid the sweep on YouTube in their final game against the D-backs this season

The Rockies held their own in the desert last night, tied 3-3 when Kyle Freeland left with an unfortunate groin injury. However, the wheels fell off at the hands of Bryan Shaw. The D-backs put up a five spot in the sixth inning and the Rockies weren’t able to recover. They rallied in the seventh and the ninth, but fell by just one run. Tim Melville will take the mound today against ASU product Mike Leake. In three games with the Snakes, Leake has a 0-1 record with a 7.71 ERA (4.64 season ERA). The team as a whole is 1-2 behind Leake, most recently losing 10-9 to the San Francisco Giants.

Jon Gray was projected to start today, but a left foot fracture has ended his season. Tim Melville has been selected from Albuquerque to take his place. Melville has been a bit of a minor league journeyman — he was drafted in the fourth round of the 2008 draft by the Kansas City Royals, but didn’t make his debut until April 10, 2016. He has made three major league starts (six appearances overall) and has an 11.05 career ERA in 14 23 total innings. With the Isotopes this year, Melville has a 10-5 record with a 5.42 ERA in 14 starts. Today is his first major league start since August 21, 2017 and his first major league appearance since September 25, 2017.

Melville will hope to stop the Leake and right the Rockies’ ship. Today’s game was selected as YouTube’s Game of the Week, so it will be broadcast there as well as on local channels.
