The Rockies lost their third consecutive game against the Cardinals in St. Louis on Saturday night. This one was a 6-0 loss, which the Rockies were never really in.
Shutout
The Rockies didn’t show much offense on Saturday night, much like Friday night. Dakota Hudson pitched six shoutout innings, and the Rockies didn’t hit any better against the Cardinals’ bullpen. They mustered just four hits on the night. But at least two of them were for extra bases! Daniel Murphy and Ian Desmond both had doubles.
Chi Chi, the spot starter
Fairly or unfairly, Chi Chi González’s starts have been measured against the “spot starter” standard. Mostly, he’s done pretty well with those judgments — pitching five or so innings and keeping the Rockies in the game. That wasn’t really the case on Saturday though. Chi Chi gave up five runs in 4 1⁄3 innings. He gave up two in the first and the second, and a four run deficit on the road is fairly insurmountable for the Rockies these days. To make matters worse, it wasn’t just a matter of poor results for Chi Chi, as he only struck out two batters and walked six in his start.
How about those players’ weekend unis?
Ugly, right?
