Well, at least Sam Hilliard had a fine MLB debut yesterday, amirite? And Nolan Arenado hit another home run, so that was cool. What might the Rockies (59-74) have in store for the Boston Red Sox (71-62) today? Who’s to say? Let’s find out together!

Peter Lambert has not had a great August. He has a 7.77 ERA over five starts with a 9:17 K/BB ratio (that’s not a typo: he’s walked almost twice as many as he’s struck out), which is a huge departure from June and July, where he at least managed a 35:9 K/BB ratio over 46 innings.

Eduardo Rodriguez takes the mound for the BoSox. He has a 3.92 ERA with 155:59 K/BB over 160 23 innings so far this season, good for a 123 ERA+. According to Brooks Baseball,

In 2019, he has relied primarily on his Fourseam Fastball (93mph) and Change (88mph), also mixing in a Cutter (89mph) and Sinker (93mph). He also rarely throws a Slider (83mph).

His fourseam fastball generates an extremely high number of swings & misses compared to other pitchers’ fourseamers, has some natural sinking action, results in somewhat more flyballs compared to other pitchers’ fourseamers and has slightly above average velo. His change is thrown extremely hard, is a real worm killer that generates an extreme number of groundballs compared to other pitchers’ changeups, has slight armside fade and has some natural sink to it. His cutter has well above average velo, has some natural sink and has strong cutting action. His sinker has well above average velo and results in somewhat more groundballs compared to other pitchers’ sinkers. His slider generates fewer whiffs/swing compared to other pitchers’ sliders, has short glove-side cut, results in somewhat more flyballs compared to other pitchers’ sliders and has some two-plane movement.

So that’s what you need to know about Eduardo Rodriguez. Hope you enjoyed it.
