Amid Arenado situation, Rox focused on season | MLB.com
The elephant in the room all week has been the drama between Nolan Arenado and Jeff Bridich. It has certainly played out like a melodrama and all we can do is wait to see what the next twist will play out (more on that below). Yesterday was Rockies Fan Fest, which many fans were hoping would help sort things out. However, questions still loom as Arenado was not in attendance due to prior commitments and Bridich and Dick Monfort greeted fans at the gate in the morning and that was about it.
So, enter Bud Black, David Dahl, Trevor Story, and Kyle Freeland, who were made available to the media and therefore were subjected to questions about the comments (and lack thereof) made by both Arenado and Bridich. Predictably, they all said that they were committed to the season and they weren’t letting this hang over their heads. Black mentioned that he had tried to reach out to Arenado but hadn’t heard back. Freeland quipped in that they will both handle it professionally in the presence of the club. 15 days until pitchers and catchers report; 20 days until position players report. I guess all we can do now is wait a few more weeks to see if this rift is resolved before Spring Training.
Inside the Colorado Rockies Red Wedding Offseason | DNVR ($)
I’m going to be completely upfront with you and say that I have not watched Game of Thrones. Judge me if you want, but it’s a statement of fact. However, Drew Creasman has and a lot of you probably have as well so if you want a different perspective on this Nolan Arenado vs. the Rockies Front Office melodrama, check out this article.
Freeland aiming to bounce back for Rox in 2020 | MLB.com
Even though the Nolan Arenado situation has been looming over our heads like a dark cloud for the better half of the past week, Kyle Freeland made his voice heard at Rockies Fest yesterday to discuss the changes he has made in his delivery this offseason. “Denver’s native son,” as Thomas Harding calls him, spent the greater part of the offseason eliminating the pauses in his delivery and hopes that will help him bounce back in 2020 after a disastrous 2019. Hopefully it works, because that would be a huge boost to a club looking to bounce back as a whole from a disastrous 2019.
Colorado Rockies: The top 5 things we learned at Rockies Fest | RoxPile
Rockies Fan Fest is just that — a festival meant to excite fans for the upcoming season by bringing in players and coaches and putting on fun events to get everyone ready for baseball. The last formal Fan Festival at Coors Field was in 2016 — the last three years have involved a multi-day caravan through various parts of Rockies fandom in Colorado, Wyoming, and New Mexico. I know I was excited to check out Rockies Fest, seeing as I’d been to Diamondbacks’ Fan Festivals for the last few years. Kevin Henry was also on the ground at Rockies Fest talking to fans about their experiences. The top answers appeared to be excitement surrounding Larry Walker getting voted into the Hall of Fame, unhappiness with Jerry Schemmel being let go from iHeartRadio and KOA, excitement about Trevor Story’s pending new deal, and unhappiness with the way the Arenado-Bridich situation is being handled. There are a lot of conflicting emotions in Rockies fandom right now and unfortunately those emotions will probably hang around for the next few weeks. However, despite that, pitchers and catchers report in 15 days and that means baseball is right around the corner!
