Normally around this time of year, we’d be about a week into the NCAA’s “March Madness” Tournament and getting excited for Opening Day on Thursday. However, like most other things, the NCAA tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and unfortunately so is baseball for the time being.
But have no fear! We’ve got you covered!
Not only are we simulating the season until we get real baseball back, but the Purple Row team has also put together our own Rockies Madness tournament that will determine the best player in franchise history. The bracket contains the Top 36 Rockies, based on the average of rWAR and fWAR to determine the field. The players have been split up into four regions — Infielders, Outfielders, Humidor (for starters who began their career after the humidor), and Mile High (for relievers and starting pitchers who began their career before the humidor). You, the fans, will have the opportunity over the next few weeks to vote your way through the bracket and determine the Rockies GOAT.
You can download your own copy of the bracket here. We will start the action tomorrow with four play-in games. Then, on Wednesday the Infielder Region will take the field; Thursday will feature the Humidor Region; Friday will feature the Mile High Region; and the first round will conclude on Saturday with the Outfielder Region.
We will post daily content with matchup data and then it will be up to you to vote on who would “win.” You could go by stats and probabilities, or you could get creative like this guy (although that seems like a waste of eggs). At the end of each post there will be a poll that will be open for only 24 hours, so make sure you’re keeping up with the action!
Will Todd Helton reign supreme, or will he be upset by someone who has been waiting in the shadows all of his life to sit upon the Rockies GOAT throne? That’s up to you, so get out and rock(ies) the vote!
