The Rockies are no strangers to injuries, which unfortunately was the case tonight. Kyle Freeland was off to a great start before leaving the game in the top of the fourth due to an injury and with no offense to back him up, the Rockies suffered the loss. Catcher Austin Hedges was the hero tonight for the Padres. With two runners on base in the bottom of the ninth, Hedges hit a game-winning single to walk off the Padres, 1-0. The loss went to LHP Jake McGee.
Pitcher’s duel
The win here tonight, however, was the pitcher’s duel between Freeland and Lucchesi. Freeland only allowed one hit before taking a ball to the cheek off the bat of Tommy Pham, forcing him to leave the game. Freeland’s final line of the night was 3 IP, 1 H, 4 K. The bullpen had a strong performance, but Lucchesi ultimately walked away with the victory between the two after striking out seven batters through 6 1⁄3 innings. Bud Black seems to think that Freeland will miss the minimum amount of time with his injury, so here’s hoping that’s true.
Simulated Bud Black expects Freeland will miss the minimum amount of time. Jeff Hoffman will take his spot in the rotation for the time being.

Offense continues to lack
Sadly, it was another night of a struggling offense. In the top of the sixth, the Rockies had their best chance to strike first with a bases loaded opportunity, but a 4-6-3 double play ended the inning. Elias Díaz walked away being the highlight of the Rockies’ offense. Díaz went 3-for-4 with two singles and a double. Nolan Arenado also reached base twice tonight with two walks going 0-for-2 on the night.
