The Sim Rockies have officially lost six games in a row and are in danger of losing another series. This one is a four game series, so they can split if they win on Wednesday and Thursday. Chi Chi González did hold the Sim Giants to just two runs in the sixth, but the sluggish offense stayed dormant for most of the game against Johnny Cueto.
Low scoring affair
This was a very non-Coors game, which does happen sometimes. The Sim Giants scored two runs in the sixth inning off of a two RBI double by Mike Yastrzemski, but the Sim Rockies offense was held scoreless until the eighth inning. At that point, Trevor Story and Charlie Blackmon hit back-to-back jacks to tie the game at two. Unfortunately, Evan Longoria went yard off of Carlos Estévez in the ninth and that was the ballgame.
Solid-ish pitching
In this game, the pitching was much better than it has been, despite the L. Chi Chi González ended up pitching six innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits while also striking out five batters and walking one. Not a bad performance given some of the ugly performances we’ve seen by Sim Rockies’ starting pitchers so far. James Pazos, Jairo Díaz, and Tim Collins pitched a scoreless 1 2⁄3 innings after González was lifted. Cueto hit a double off of Díaz and Collins walked Hunter Pence, but neither of them came around to score. Carlos Estévez came in to finish out the eighth and got Pablo Sandoval to ground out to Trevor Story. He started off the ninth by striking out Wilmer Flores, but then gave up the homer to Evan Longoria to make it 3-2 Sim Giants right after the Sim Rockies had tied the game. He came back to strike out Buster Posey and Alex Dickerson, but the Sim Rockies were unable to score in the bottom half of the inning.
