The Sim Rockies have been winning on the road this season, but even that couldn’t fix what ails them. After going 0-8 on the last homestand, they opened up the road trip by falling to the Miami Marlins (23-22) by the score of 6-3.
First inning problems
Sometimes you dig yourself into a quick hole and are unable to dig yourself back out. In the bottom of the first inning, Antonio Senzatela did that for the Rockies. Old friend Corey Dickerson got things going with a one out RBI ground-rule double. Sim-zatela then walked Garrett Cooper so when Brian Anderson knocked a ball over the left field fence, it was 4-0 Marlins. That was all the offense they would need. Senzatela’s final line: 4 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 4 K, 3 BB.
Too little too late
The top of the Rockies lineup has been producing throughout this losing streak, but rarely have they all produced at the same time. Friday was no exception. Down 6-0 in the top of the eighth, Garrett Hampson smashed a lead-off home run to get the Rockies on the board and two batters later Trevor Story tacked on his tenth donger of the season to make it 6-2. Blackmon singled and Arenado doubled to put two on with one out. Alas, all they could muster was a Daniel Murphy RBI groundout. Ryan McMahon struck out to end the rally.
