No video today, but a sim game still happened, and you’re not going to believe this: The Rockies didn’t lose! In fact, they actually won. No, really. They did.
A lot of pitching
Kyle Freeland started for the Sim Rockies and pitched seven innings, giving up five hits and one run and striking out five.
Caleb Smith was even better, throwing seven shutout innings with one hit and seven strikeouts. Unfortunately for the Sim Marlins, they let him go out for the eighth inning, and Ian Desmond hit a home run to tie the game.
For the Sim Rockies, Tim Collins got the win with a scoreless eighth inning, and Tyler Kinley gave up a run in the ninth but held on to record the save against his former team.
Just enough hitting
Trevor Story added a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning, which was just enough to hold off the Sim Marlins’ attempted comeback in the bottom of the ninth. And thus the Sim Rockies’ losing streak ends at 10.
The big picture
With today’s win, the Sim Rockies move to 19-27 on the season. They’re currently 9.5 games back of the NL West-leading Sim San Diego Padres.
The Sim Rockies currently have two pitchers with ERAs under 4.00 (Kyle Freeland at 2.06 and Tyler Kinley at 2.04) and one hitter over .300 (Nolan Arenado at .305).
Up next
The Sim Rockies have Monday off as they fly to Chicago for a two-game interleague series against the Sim White Sox. Tuesday’s matchup pits Chi Chi González (1-4, 5.36) against Gio González (1-1, 4.91)
