The Sim Rockies added another loss at the hands of the Sim Dodgers, marking their record at 21-32 on the simulated year. Once again, they took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning but then gave up four runs to lose it 5-2.
Small ball does it
There were two homers in the game, and both were solo shots. Cody Bellinger hit a 470-foot solo shot in the fourth and Ian Desmond upped him with a 491-foot concourse shot in the fifth. Trevor Story doubled in David Dahl in the first, but all of the other runs were scored on singles.
The Sim Rockies were limited to four hits and the Sim Dodgers had eight, but Desmond was the only player on either side to record multiple hits.
Later innings continue to be a struggle
Fatigue at altitude is a real thing, but the Sim Rockies continue to struggle late in games. Jon Gray pitched 6 innings and gave up three earned runs on five hits — two of which came in his final inning of work on a two RBI single by noted Rockie killer Max Muncy. He walked one, but struck out eight. Through five innings, Gray had a 2-1 lead and looked quite solid. When he left, he was behind 3-2. With this loss, Gray goes to 2-7 on the year.
After he was lifted, the Sim Rockies got bullpen’d again. AJ Pollock hit an RBI single in his pinch-hit appearance in the ninth off of Tim Collins and Chris Taylor followed with another RBI single off of Wade Davis to finalize the score at 5-2. That run was charged to Collins, though, and Davis ended with a line of 1⁄3 IP with a strikeout.
Beyond those two, however, Joe Harvey and James Pazos held the Sim Dodgers scoreless for two innings. They combined for 2 IP, 2 H, 2 BB.
On the hitting side of things, the Sim Rockies got two early runs but were limited to just two hits. After starter Julio Urías was lifted, they managed one hit in the seventh and one hit in the ninth. The hit in the ninth was off of Kenley Jansen, though.
Urías pitched five innings and gave up two runs on two hits. He also walked three and struck out six.
