The Sim Rockies’ three-game winning streak came to an end Saturday night at Oracle Park. The Sim Giants’ starting pitcher, Drew Smyly, threw a complete game and held off the Rockies’ offense to a mere three hits.
The Rockies only hope at scoring came in the bottom of the second — Ian Desmond hit a rocket to left but was robbed of a home run by outfielder, Austin Slater.
Kyle Freeland had the start for the Rockies, in which he gave up two of the Giants’ runs in six innings of work. In the fourth, Hunter Pence scored the first run on an RBI single by Wilmer Flores. Freeland’s second earned run came from a walk to Brandon Belt in a bases-loaded situation. The Giants’ final run was a solo shot off the bat of Pence, scoring his second run of the day.
