The Rockies head into this weekend’s home opener with a 4-1 record against the Padres — the team’s best record heading into a home opener since 2017.
Jon Gray will take the mound for Colorado which will make this his first career home opener start. Gray is 10-4 with a 2.97 ERA in 20 games (19 starts) against San Diego. Last year, Gray was 6-2 with a 3.46 ERA in 13 games (12 starts) at Coors Field.
Garrett Richards will be taking the mound for the Padres. Richards underwent Tommy John surgery in 2018. Richards only appeared in three starts for the Padres last season, collecting 8 2⁄3 innings, but had a strong first outing this season going five scoreless innings with six strikeouts in a no-decision against Arizona.
