The Rockies are looking to bounce back after an unsuccessful home stand that saw them lose back-to-back series’. Kyle Freeland takes the mound against Houston for the first time in his career. Freeland holds a 2.45 ERA through his first four starts and is looking to add a fifth consecutive quality start.
Throwing for the Houston Astros will be the right-handed rookie Brandon Bielak (BEE-lack). Bielak is a New Jersey native who was an 11th round draft pick by the Astros in 2017. He was called up to the show just after Justin Verlander suffered an elbow injury.
After coming out of the bullpen in his first two appearances, Bielak was added to the starting rotation earlier this month. Through 15 1⁄3 innings of work, he carries a 1.76 ERA and enjoys pitching against left-handed batters (.172 opponent average).
