In front of a national audience, the Colorado Rockies are looking to end a seven-game losing skid tonight against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Ryan Castellani takes the mound for the Rockies for the fourth time in his young career. Castellani is entering today with a 3.77 ERA. He is coming off of his first career loss last Wednesday against Houston, which saw him responsible for five runs in 5 ⅔ innings of work.
Throwing for the D-backs will be second-year right-hander Merrill Kelly. Through his five starts this season, Kelly has thrown for a 2.59 ERA in 31 1⁄3 innings. However, he is coming off of a shaky start after giving up four runs in five innings against Oakland last Wednesday. Kelly is at his best against right-handed-hitters only allowing an opponent average of .173.
After being released by the Rays in 2014, Kelly went to play in the Korea Baseball Organization for four seasons averaging a 3.86 ERA during that time. In 2018, Arizona signed him to a two-year contract.
