The Rockies will honor Jackie Robinson as they take the field on Friday, heading back home to face the San Diego Padres at Coors Field. After taking the last three games in a row against the Diamondbacks, the Rockies are steering the ship back in the right direction with a record of 16-15. Nolan Arenado was huge in the last series going 5-for-11 with three doubles and five runs batted in. Kyle Freeland will continue his comeback player of the year bid as he will get the start. His last start against the Padres was on August 1 at Coors where he pitched six shutout innings and earned the win. On the season, Freeland’s line is 4-2, 37 ⅔ IP, 2.87 ERA, 1.115 WHIP, 24 K.
Zach Davies will make the start for the Padres. The soft-throwing right-hander has been impressive this season and brings a miniscule 0.84 WHIP into today’s game. Davies last pitched against the Rockies on August 2 where he let up three runs in five innings in what ended up as a 9-6 Rockies win.
