It is August 5, 2020 and the Rockies are a) sporting an 8-2 record — their best 10-game start since 2011, b) in sole possession of first place in the NL West, c) riding a four-game winning streak, and d) have yet to lose a series. Raise your hand if you saw that all coming!
Jon Gray will take the mound for the Rockies tonight — his third start of the 2020 season. Gray is sporting a 2.61 ERA in 10 1⁄3 innings and has yet to record a decision in either of his two starts. Ironically of the “main four” (Márquez, Gray, Freeland, and Senzatela), he has the highest ERA and is the only one without a decision. He will look to change that tonight against the Giants.
Logan Webb made his MLB debut last year on August 17. In eight starts with the Giants in 2019, the rookie right-hander posted a 2-3 record and a 5.22 ERA in 39 2⁄3 innings. So far this year, the 23-year-old has made two starts and, like Gray, has yet to record a decision. Webb’s ERA is 2.35 in 2020 so far in 7 2⁄3 innings. This will be his first career start against the Rockies.
