Colorado Rockies game No. 36 thread: Kevin Gausman vs. Jon Gray

Pillar will face old team in Colorado debut

Looking for new results in a new month, the final month of the 2020 60-game sprint, the Rockies (17-18) will open a two-game series with the Giants (17-19) on Tuesday night at Coors Field. Newly acquired Kevin Pillar, who the Rockies just got in a trade from the Red Sox, will make his Colorado debut, hitting in the second spot and playing center field. (Check him out in black and purple below.) Hopefully the addition of Pillar, who spent the 2019 season as a member of the Giants, will bring life back to the Rockies offense. The Rockies are riding a two-game losing streak and have only won four of their last six games, being outscored 70-33 during the stretch. San Francisco, on the other hand, has won two straight games and seven out of its last ten.

Jon Gray (2-3, 5.45 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 36 1/3 innings) will be on the mound for the Rockies. He’s won two of his last three starts, going seven innings in a 10-6 win over Texas on Aug. 16 and going six innings and giving up 3 runs (only one earned) in an 8-7 win against Arizona on Aug. 26.

This will be the second start of the year at Coors Field for Centennial, Colo. native Kevin Gausman (1-2, 4.54 ERA with 48 strikeouts in 35 2/3 innings). He faced the Rockies on Aug. 4, taking the loss in an 5-2 Rockies win. In that game, Gausman went 5 1/3 innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits, including a solo homer by Nolan Arenado and a triple from David Dahl.
