Colorado Rockies game no. 44 thread: Griffin Canning vs. German Márquez

Rockies head back to Coors, fighting for their playoff lives

The Rockies are back in Denver after getting swept by the San Diego Padres. The road trip wasn’t altogether a bummer, since the Rockies did manage to earn their first series win against the Dodgers since 2018. Each game moving forward will have a huge impact on the Rockies playoff hopes as they enter tonight’s matchup with the Los Angeles Angels two games back of the Cardinals, Marlins, and Giants. There will be no shortage of star power in this series, featuring two of the games best in Mike Trout and Nolan Arenado. German Márquez will get the start tonight. He started this season off strong but has really struggled in his last two starts at Coors, giving up a combined 15 earned runs over 11 innings. Hopefully he can summon his ace stuff from earlier in the season. Overall on the season, Márquez’s line is 2-5, 55 IP, 4.58 ERA, 1.345 WHIP, 52 K.

Griffin Canning, a 24-year-old right-hander pitching in his second season, will be making his first start at Coors Field. Canning has had mixed results so far this season and comes into today’s game with an ERA of 4.54 and 34 strikeouts over 39 ⅔ innings pitched.
