The Rockies couldn’t get it done in extras tonight, and instead the Angels came up with the win thanks to a three-run home run in the top of the eleventh off the bat of Jared Walsh. Tyler Kinley has the loss as the Rockies record falls to 21-24.
Offense started out strong but couldn’t finish
Charlie Blackmon came up clutch last night, and he started off today’s game on the right foot as well. Blackmon gave the Rockies their first run of the night after hitting a sacrifice fly out to center on which Tony Wolters was able to score on. Then, in the fourth with Josh Fuentes on base, Ryan McMahon hit a single to bring in Fuentes and put the Rox up 2-0.
The Rockies had their chance to get the walk-off win in the 10th. Elias Díaz was on third with only one out, but the team couldn’t make it happen. Unfortunately, the Angels came up with the clutch hit to walk away victorious.
K-Free gets through six
Kyle Freeland may have given up two runs, but he got the outs that counted most to prevent the Angels from threatening to take the lead. Freeland pitched well throughout the first five innings, but things got nerve-wracking when he started to come undone in the sixth inning. K-Free began falling behind in most of the counts, and a one-out single to Anthony Rendon followed by an RBI double from Albert Pujols tied the game at two. However, Freeland managed to get the last two outs without giving up any more hits or runs.
Left side struggles
The Rockies, arguably, have one of the best left sides in baseball, but tonight they were a little off their game. It started with a routine ground ball kicking off the glove of Nolan Arenado, but luckily Trevor Story was positioned close enough to catch the ball and get the out at first. The same can’t be said for McMahon and later for Story who each recorded an error tonight. This makes 13 errors on the season between the two – six for McMahon and seven for Story.
