Colorado Rockies game No. 48 thread: Mike Fiers vs. Germán Márquez

The Rockies will look to build upon last night’s stellar pitching performance

After a Senza-tional pitching performance on Tuesday night, the Rockies will look to continue the momentum and sweep the A’s in this two-game set before 11 straight divisional games to finish the regular season.

Germán Márquez will be tasked with starting today’s game. Márquez has been a little up and down all season, but pitched outstanding in his last outing against the Angels on Friday. He pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits. All of the hits were singles and his five strikeouts pushed him past Jason Jennings for sixth all time on the Rockies career strikeouts list. Prior to the Friday game, Márquez had been roughed up a bit — giving up 15 runs over 11 innings at Coors. Hopefully we’ll see a start more similar to the one against the Angels.

Mike Fiers will take the hill for the Athletics. Most notably, he is the whistleblower in the Astros cheating scandal. Fiers is in his second full season with the A’s (he was traded from the Tigers on August 6, 2018) and so far has a 5-2 record with a 5.06 ERA in nine starts. This is the first time that the 35-year-old righty has had an ERA over five since 2017 (with the Astros). In his last two starts, he has allowed seven runs over 11 innings and struck out nine. Fiers has yet to pitch past the sixth inning in any of his starts in 2020.
