Colorado Rockies game no. 50 thread: Alex Wood vs. Ryan Castellani

Rockies look to get back on track with rookie on the mound

It was another solid performance yesterday by the Rockies starting pitcher, but again the bullpen and offense were nowhere to be found. The story of the Rockies’ fall from playoff contention this season is full of games lost in the last three innings. If they can turn it around, they’ll need to get it going tonight against the division rival Dodgers. Rookie right-hander Ryan Castellani will get the nod at starting pitcher. Castellani has fared decently in his rookie campaign and is coming off an excellent start against the Los Angeles Angels where he held the Angels to one hit over 5 ⅔ innings, although he did walk six batters. Castellani’s line this season is 1-2, 34 ⅓ IP, 4.46 ERA, 1.340 WHIP, 23 K. He’s struggled with walks in his last two starts and will need to improve on his season average of 4.7 BB/9 as the Dodgers hit 0.286 with runners in scoring position, second in all of MLB.

Alex Wood, the veteran pitcher out of the University of Georgia, will get the start for the Dodgers. Wood has struggled when he’s pitched at Coors Field owning a career ERA of 9.75 over 24 IP. There should be some run-scoring in this game.
