Over the last two days, the Rockies have been outscored 26-9 by the best team in baseball, the Los Angeles Dodgers. As the 37-win team continues to tee off on Rockies pitchers, it seems hard to believe that just two weeks ago, the Rockies (22-28) won a series against the Dodgers (37-15) in Chavez Ravine. Despite the current Rockies’ skid of going 2-8 in their last 10 games, they still have a chance to split their final series with the Dodgers, which also happens to be their final series at Coors Field in 2020, if they can win tonight and Sunday.
It obviously won’t be easy as the Rockies have to face Clayton Kershaw (5-2, 2.28 ERA). Kershaw is 23-8 against the Rockies in his career, including a 10-5 record at Coors Field. The Rockies also need a decent start from Chi Chi Gonzalez (0-1, 8.68 ERA). He’s struggled this year in four appearances, including two starts where he combined for 3 ⅔ innings. He didn’t make it out of the first inning in his last appearance, walking the first three, then striking out one, before hitting the next batter to give up the first run of a 14-5 loss. Gonzalez’s best outing of the year came on Aug. 30 against the Padres when he only gave up one run on two hits and one walk in four innings. If he can throw strikes, he might be able to give the Rockies a chance.
