After splitting the series in San Francisco with a walk-off on Thursday, the Rockies head to Phoenix to close out the 2020 regular season. The Diamondbacks (22-34) have been eliminated from playoff contention, but the Rockies (25-31) are still clinging to hope that they can sneak into the postseason. The two teams will play a seven-inning doubleheader on Friday to make up for the game that was postponed on August 27.
Antonio Senzatela (5-2, 3.13 ERA) will make the start for the Rox in Game 1. He started the home finale against the Dodgers on Sunday and held the No. 1 seeded team to just one run on three hits over 6 1⁄3 innings. Prior to that, he pitched a complete game against the A’s on September 15 — the first of his career. Senzatela has been Senza-tional, and hopefully he can continue that streak today.
It will be a tall task, though, as he will be facing D-backs second-year phenom Zac Gallen (2-2, 3.00 ERA). Gallen was brought to the desert in the trade that sent IF Jazz Chisolm — the D-backs’ top prospect at the time — to Miami in July 2019. Since then, the 25-year-old has been phenomenal for the Snakes — posting a 2.89 ERA in eight starts in 2019 and a 3.00 ERA in 11 starts in 2020.
This should be a great game to watch (hopefully in favor of the Rockies, of course).
Note: There will be a separate game thread posted between games, but a combined recap will be posted after the conclusion of Game 2.
