The Rockies enter Friday’s doubleheader needing a miracle to make the playoffs, however, they have not yet been mathematically eliminated. With some key veterans injured, they will need some younger, less experienced players to make the most of the opportunities they have left in the short season. Antonio Santos, ranked as the 20th best prospect in the Rockies’ system by Fangraphs, will be making his first career start. Santos has made two relief appearances prior to today’s start, with a season line of 0-0, 5 ⅓ IP, 8.44 ERA, 2.063 WHIP, 3 K. At the plate, the Rockies will need to get it done without Nolan Arenado, who is out of the rest of the season with a shoulder injury. Josh Fuentes will be in the spotlight as he’s second on the Rockies in OPS in the month of September with a mark of 0.825.
Taylor Clarke will be taking the mound for the Diamondbacks, returning to the rotation for his first start since September 9th. Clarke has had a pretty solid season, turning in a record of 2-0 with a 3.99 ERA.
