The finalists for 2021 Silver Slugger awards were announced this afternoon. While there are many names on the list, only one belongs to a Colorado Rockies player: starting pitcher Germán Márquez.
Márquez, a winner in 2018, was by far the Rockies’ best hitting pitcher in 2021. He slashed .264/.264/.415 with 14 hits, five doubles, and nine RBIs while also clubbing his second career home run. In what will likely have been the final season without a DH in the National League, Márquez didn’t keep it a secret that he wanted to win the final Silver Slugger for pitchers.
“It would be fun to win the Silver Slugger again,” Márquez said. “You guys know that I love to hit. I love to get on base.”
