Colorado Rockies game no. 9 thread: Chi Chi González vs Logan Webb

The Rockies bats look to rebound in San Francisco

It was a typical first game of a west-coast road trip for the Rockies as the bats couldn’t find any traction after three straight games of excellent offensive output at home. Johnny Cueto had total control as the Rockies were only able to generate four hits and one run in his 823 innings of work in the loss.

Chi Chi González is making his first start of the 2021 season after starting the year in the bullpen as the Rockies went with a four-man rotation for the first week of the season. González is coming off a 2020 that saw him go 0-2 in four games started with an ERA of 6.86 and an ERA+ of 77. He will look to build on the success of Austin Gomber, whose issues with control were the only thing that got to him in his 613 innings of work yesterday. The Giants bats were stifled for the majority of the game as they were only able to produce five hits but managed three runs in the victory thanks in large part to the free passes.

Logan Webb gets the nod for the San Francisco Giants and has a tough act to follow in Cueto. Webb is making his second start of the year and will look to rebound from a loss in which he threw 513 innings and gave up three runs against the Seattle Mariners. In three career starts, Webb is 2-0 with an ERA of 4.02 against the Rockies.

The Rockies will look to cure their Coors hangover in game two of this three game set by the bay. For the second of three straight, the Rockies and Giants will be facing off during the day as the Rockies attempt to even up the series.
