Colorado Rockies game no. 10 thread: Germán Márquez vs Anthony DeSclafani

The Rockies try to avoid getting swept in their first series on the road

The Rockies are once again skidding, largely due to self inflicted wounds. Against the San Francisco Giants yesterday, the Rockies walked a combined seven batters, which led to their 4-3 loss. Through nine games the pitching staff has walked a league leading 48 batters, already a quarter of what was allowed through 60 games in 2020. Yikes.

Germán Márquez will be making his third start of the season after a solid six inning showing his last time out. He struck out five and walked two while allowing three earned runs on five hits. His fastball command looked sharper than the season opener, and he utilized his off-speed pitches effectively.

On the bump for the Giants is Anthony DeSclafani, who spent his last six seasons in Cincinnati. DeSclafani uses a five-pitch mix, anchored by a mid-90s sinker in combination with a slider to induce ground ball contact. His walk rate has been steadily increasing in recent years, and he walked three batters across five innings while striking out four in his first outing against the San Diego Padres. In three career starts against the Rockies, DeSclafani has an ERA of 4.24.
