After C.J. Cron dominated the Houston Astros on a chilly night at Coors Field on Tuesday, the Rockies will look to capitalize on that momentum and sweep the short series before welcoming the Phillies into town over the weekend.
Austin Gomber (0-2, 3.52 ERA) will take the ball for the Rockies. After a disastrous first start, Gomber has pitched much better, pitching 6+ innings in each of his last two starts. However, this will be the true test since his last two starts were at San Francisco and at LA — two well-known pitchers parks in California. Hopefully Gomber has a better second showing at Coors this afternoon.
He will go up against Astros’ right-hander José Urquidy (0-1, 4.50 ERA). Urquidy has not allowed more than four runs in any of his three starts and in his last start in Seattle, he pitched 5 2⁄3 innings and allowed two runs on five hits and struck out seven. In three starts combined, Urquidy has pitched 16 innings, allowed eight runs on 16 hits, struck out 19, and walked just four. Hopefully the Rockies are able to get to him on what could be another chilly Coors Field afternoon.
