Following their quick two-game sweep of the Houston Astros, the Colorado Rockies will try to get a streak going as they host the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday.
Germán Márquez’s last start was a gem. He threw a seven-inning complete game (doubleheader), allowing two runs on just two hits against the New York Mets. Márquez, like others in the Rockies rotation, has walked more batters than he’d like this season (13 in 22 2⁄3 innings), but has largely pitched well otherwise. He owns a career 3.38 ERA in four games vs Philadelphia.
Vince Velasquez has mainly been utilized as long reliever by the Phillies this season, though he’ll have an opportunity to cement himself in the rotation as he starts in place of Matt Moore. Velasquez has given up four runs in his four innings of work this season for an even 9.00 ERA. His appearances against the Rockies have been rough in the past — in his seven games vs Colorado, Velasquez owns a 2-1 record with a 4.91 ERA.
In the case of matchups, there are a couple to keep an eye on. Charlie Blackmon rocks a .313 AVG in 16 ABs against Velasquez, though only one RBI. No one in Philadelphia’s lineup owns more than nine at-bats against Márquez, though Bryce Harper is 4-for-8 in his attempts vs the Venezuelan righty.
