The weather couldn’t be more perfect for spring afternoon baseball—sunny and 70 degrees—as the Rockies take the field for the rubber match against the Philadelphia Phillies. It’s been a fun series, and the Rockies look to end the homestand on a high note by cementing their third series win of the season with a win today after losing last night’s slugfest 7-5.
Starting this afternoon for the Rockies is the revitalized Jon Gray, who has looked nothing short of fantastic to start the 2021 season. After four starts with 22 1⁄3 innings pitched, he leads the rotation in ERA at 2.42, and K% at 23.1. Healthy, happy, and confident, Gray will look to notch another quality start in his belt with his improved fastball velocity and command of his breaking pitches.
On the bump for the pheisty Phillies is the right handed Chase Anderson. In addition to his low 90s four seam fastball and a cutter, Anderson utilizes pitches with downward movement in his curveball, changeup, and sinker. In three starts this season, Anderson has pitched just 13 innings to the tune of a 4.15 ERA. In previous action at Coors Field, he’s pitched for a 6.66 ERA across five starts.
