After a last night’s extra innings thriller, the Rockies have their first road win of the year and an opportunity to win the series tonight. Colorado’s 6-4 in their last ten and a win tonight can make it three consecutive series wins. That’s something the Rockies haven’t done since the beginning of the 2020 season when they won their first five series.
Pitching in today’s contest for the Rockies will be Germán Márquez (1-1, 3.45 ERA). Márquez will be making his sixth start of the year and is coming off another solid outing when he held the Phillies to just two runs in six innings. He also threw a season high eight strikeouts and now currently leads the team in total strikeouts with 28. Márquez has historically struggled at Oracle Park with a career 4.50 ERA but it is the place where he had his only complete game shutout of his career back in 2019.
On the mound for the Giants will be the lefty Alex Wood (2-0, 0.75 ERA). Wood will be making just his third start of the year after beginning the season on the 10-day IL because of a minor back procedure he underwent in March. Since coming back, Wood has only allowed one run and five hits in twelve total innings of work.
Wood, the former Dodger, is plenty familiar with the Rockies. In fact, the Rockies have consistently lit Wood up (see what I did there) with a 6.52 ERA in 15 games, his highest ERA against any team with a minimum of four starts against him.
Also, Mike Tauchman will make his Giants debut at centerfield against the Rockies.
