The Colorado Rockies and the Coors Field faithful have a new ninth inning tradition that was seemingly inspired by the shirtless celebration of Josh Fuentes following his walk-off on Wednesday evening and I am here for it. Following three straight wins powered by a surge in offense, the Colorado Rockies will look to clinch the series win against the Cincinnati Reds.
Jhoulys Chacín (0-1, 5.84 ERA) will take the mound for Colorado in his first start in a Rockies uniform since June 28, 2014. Chacín has been the long reliever for the Rockies this season and is making this start as the team plays their sixth game in five days to give Antonio Senzatela normal rest. The season hasn’t started how Chacín would hope, as he sports an ERA+ of 80, but he will be looking to find his groove in his familiar role as a starter.
For the Reds, Tyler Mahle (2-1, 3.00 ERA) will be starting coming off a win in his last outing in which he gave up one run in 51⁄3 innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Rockies have fared well against Mahle in his career as he has an 0-1 record across three starts with a 7.53 ERA. Fan favorite Connor Joe and the Rockies offense will look to stay hot and provide Chacín with plenty of run support following two straight taco’s nights.
