Colorado Rockies game no. 45 thread: Seth Frankoff vs Germán Márquez

Hopefully a return to the friendly confines of Coors Field will lead to success after a tough road series

After a frankly brutal series in San Diego, the Rockies return to the 303 to take on the similarly-maligned Arizona Diamondbacks. Both teams are on five-game losing streaks, but one will return to the win column tonight.

Seth Frankoff (0-0, 3.86 ERA) will start for the Snakes. Making his second start of the season, Frankoff started this past Saturday against the Nationals and allowed three hits, four walks, and two earned runs while striking out four in 4 23 innings. His start against the Rockies on Friday will be just the fifth appearance of his career, and he’ll be in for a tough assignment at altitude.

Germán Márquez (2-4, 5.56 ERA) has started to figure things out lately. He pitched six innings against the Cardinals on May 9th and the Reds on May 14th, allowing one and four earned runs, respectively. Márquez has work to do against the D-backs, as many of their hitters have done damage in their past encounters. Noted Rockies-killer David Peralta is a career 15-for-38 with seven extra-base hits; Eduardo Escobar has flat-out raked to the tune of 10 hits in 17 at-bats for a .588 average. It goes without saying that Márquez will need to figure these two hitters out to find success on Friday.

Speaking of hitters, the Rockies lineup must be overjoyed to return to Denver. Their series in San Diego saw them score just one lone run in three games, mostly due to their 44 (!!!) strikeouts. Colorado will try to take advantage of Arizona’s beleaguered pitching staff this series, as they have the third-highest (behind the Rockies and Reds) team ERA and are tied with the Rockies for the second-highest WHIP. Maybe the return of Brendan Rodgers will ignite the offense.

There will probably be some high-scoring games this weekend - strap in!
