RHP Justin Lawrence was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque following last night’s game.
Estévez was placed on the IL on May 3rd with right middle finger strain. The hard-throwing big man struggled mightily during spring training and to start the season, but was finally settling into a solid rhythm before his injury. In his last five games across 5 2⁄3 innings pitched, he allowed four hits and one unearned run while striking out six. In his lone rehab appearance with the Isotopes, he pitched one inning and struck out three while allowing two hits.
The Rockies are desperate for bullpen help with one of the worst relief units in the league. They rank 29th of 30 in fWAR and ERA with -0.8 and 5.59 respectively. The only member of the Rockies’ pen with 15 or more appearances on the season and an ERA under 4.00 is rookie Jordan Sheffield at 1.84.
