Good news! The Rockies swept the D-Backs over the weekend, capping it off with a walk-off home run off the bat of Trevor Story. It was their first three-game sweep of any team in 2021. Also, they’re not in last place anymore!
Bad news. The Rockies hit the road, where they have an abysmal 2-17 record. The last time on the road, they scored a single run on 12 hits against the Padres in 28 innings.
Good news! They’re heading to New York and not California. Bad news. The Mets are 21-19 and lead the NL East.
On the mound for the Rockies is Austin Gomber (2-4, 4.96 ERA). In his last start in San Diego, Gomber pitched six innings of one-run ball. He held the Padres high-powered offense to just five hits and struck out seven, yielding a single walk.
He will face Mets’ lefty David Peterson (1-3, 4.97 ERA). Peterson has made eight starts for the Mets this year and the team is 3-5 when he toes the rubber. He has held opponents to a .239/.321/.423 slash against in 2021, up from his .202.307/.337 slash in 2020. Hopefully the Rockies will be able to change their road narrative this year and get a first-game road win for the first time all year.
