Colorado Rockies game no. 50 thread: Germán Márquez vs. Marcus Stroman

After getting rained out yesterday, the Rockies prepare for a doubleheader today

After yesterday’s postponement, the Rockies and Mets will finish their four game series today with a pair of 7-inning games. As a refresher, the Rockies had their four game win streak snapped on Tuesday and now they look to start a new one in the Big Apple. Tuesday’s game was dominated by the Mets pitching staff as they held the Rockies to just three hits for the fifth time this season. This will be the second time this season that the Rockies and Mets have had weather issues and been forced to play 7-inning doubleheaders.

Starting in game one for the Rockies will be the 26-year-old right hander Germán Márquez (3-4, 4.82 ERA). Márquez has gotten off to a rough start on the season but is coming off of what was easily his best start of the season when he threw seven shutout innings and eight strikeouts against the Diamondbacks last week. Márquez faced these same Mets back on April 17th as the second leg of that day’s doubleheader when he threw a complete seven inning game with just two runs allowed. This will only be the second time in Márquez’s career that he will pitch at Citi Field.

For the Mets, Marcus Stroman (3-4, 2.75 ERA) will make his tenth start of the year. Stroman is coming off of a solid outing against the Marlins as he only allowed two runs and struck out eight in six innings of work. Stroman faced the Rockies in Colorado back on April 18th when he put on a show and only allowed one run on three hits in eight innings. In fact, in all three career starts against the Rockies, Stroman has gone seven or more innings in each of them and given up a grand total of just four runs.
