Trevor Story placed on the 10-day IL

The All-Star shortstop’s absence will leave a struggling Rockies team shorthanded.

Prior to this morning’s first game of the doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Colorado Rockies announced that All-Star shortstop Trevor Story was heading to the 10-day injured list retroactive to Friday, May 28th. Taking his place on the active roster will be infielder Matt Adams, who has been reactivated from the 10-day injured list (shin contusion).

Story was pulled from Game 2 of the Thursday doubleheader against the New York Mets with worsening tightness around his right elbow. Manager Bud Black said he was not expected to be in the lineup against Pittsburgh, and would see doctors when the team returned to Denver on Monday. The Rockies were hoping to keep Story off the IL, but worsening inflammation made it a necessity.

While Story is out, Brendan Rodgers will likely take the majority of reps at shortstop, though Garrett Hampson can also play the position if needed. Matt Adams will resume his role as a veteran bench bat.
