When it comes to playing games on the road this year, no one has been worse than the Colorado Rockies, who are 4-22 away from Coors Field through the first two months of the season. Despite that depressing record, there is good news.
The Texas Rangers are currently riding a 12-game road losing streak and are in town to play the Rockies, who happen to be 16-12 at home. Trying to focus on the positives, even more good news is that Germán Márquez will be on the mound for the Rockies. Márquez has been in the groove his last two games, holding the Mets and Diamondbacks to one run on seven hits with four walks and 14 strikeouts over 13 innings. On the season, Márquez has posted a 3-5 record with a 4.47 ERA and 1.491 WHIP. Márquez has been decent at Coors Field this season, getting all three of his wins with a 4.91 ERA and 1.582 WHIP.
The Rangers are six games into a nine-game road trip and have lost 12 away games in a row dating back to May 10 against the Mariners, Angels, Astros, and Giants. Getting the start for Texas is Dane Dunning, who will be facing the Rockies for the first time in his career. He’s 2-4 with a 4.75 ERA this season and is coming off a rough outing of giving up seven runs in four innings against the Angels.
The Rockies won’t see their former teammate David Dahl in the series as the former All-Star outfielder was placed on the 10-day IL with a left rib cage contusion on May 26. Dahl’s struggled this season, only hitting .208/.242/.582 with four homers and 12 RBI in 144 at-bats.
The series features two notable home-run hitters with rookie center fielder Adolis Garcia for the Rangers and infielder Ryan McMahon for the Rockies. Garcia is tied for the MLB lead with 16 homers, while McMahon is tied for eighth best in the MLB with 13.
