Coming off another road trip without a series win, the Colorado Rockies look to turn things around at home against the San Diego Padres. The Padres are looking for a reversal of recent fortune themselves - they are yet to win a series in the month of June and are wrapping up a quick road trip in Denver after dropping a series to the Mets out east.
The Padres own the season series thus far, sweeping the Rockies at Petco Park and taking two of three at Coors during what ended up being a 12-1 stretch May 9-23. That sole loss was a walk-off courtesy of Josh Fuentes and the Rockies during Game 2 of the May 12 doubleheader.
Austin Gomber will be toeing the rubber for the Rockies, looking to build on a recent run of success. He’s won three of his last four starts, walking just one batter over 23 innings. This will be his fifth start of the year at home (compared to nine on the road), but he has fared well at Coors - not allowing an earned run in each of his previous two home starts, the earlier of which was the aforementioned walk-off victory in May.
Opposing the Rockies will be Dinelson Lamet. He’s been brought along cautiously by the Padres this year after recovery from a UCL sprain that ended his 2020 season prematurely. He threw a season-high 78 pitches in his last start, mostly four-seam fastballs and sliders but with an occasional sinker mixed in. He’s made one start against the Rockies this year, giving up one run on one hit over two innings of work at Coors Field.
