Colorado Rockies game no. 68 thread: Yu Darvish vs. Chi Chi González

Padres have dropped 11 of their last 15 games, while the Rockies are 7-8 over their last 15

The Rockies have an impressive 21-14 record at Coors Field and will look to add another tally to the win column when they take on the Padres on Tuesday night. It will be a hot night at the park on a day that had record-breaking temperatures over 100 and will only be cooled down to the high 90s for the first pitch.

Chi Chi González (2-4, 5.74) will be making the start for Colorado, holding down Jon Gray’s spot in the rotation while he continues to recover from a right flexor strain. Even though González has struggled with giving up more homers that have ballooned his ERA since May 18, as chronicled by Purple Row’s Justin Wick earlier today, the good news is how he’s performed at Coors Field. In five games, including two stats, Chi Chi is 2-0 with a 2.95 ERA, 10 strikeouts to only six walks, and no homers allowed in 21 1/3 innings.

He’s also done well in his one start against the Padres, holding San Diego to two runs in six innings on four hits (including two homers), with one walk and six strikeouts. He took the loss, but also didn’t get any run support in the 3-0 shutout.

The Rockies will face Yu Darvish (6-2, 2.28), who’s already seen the Rockies twice this season. In the first matchup, which San Diego won 5-3 in the first game of a doubleheader, Darvish posted his shortest outing of the season when he gave up one unearned run on two hits in four innings. He threw seven solid innings in a 7-0 win on May 17. In those 11 innings, Darvish hasn’t allowed an earned run and has only given up six hits. On the bright side, in his career at Coors Field, Darvish is 0-1 with a 5.52 ERA in 14 2/3 innings.
