Following a tough late loss on Saturday, the Colorado Rockies will try to bounce back and secure the W in the finale of their four-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Chi Chi González (2-4, 5.76 ERA) has been in and out of the rotation this season, but has done a decent job of filling in while starters Kyle Freeland and Jon Gray have missed time. When last he started, he battled the San Diego Padres and allowed four runs in six innings. Something to note there is that all four of those runs came in the first two innings. Chi Chi will try to similarly limit the Brewers on Sunday, who have scored three, six, and six runs in the first three games of this series.
Eric Lauer (1-3, 5.18 ERA) will try to keep the Rockies bats quiet—something the Brewers have yet to accomplish this series. As the Crew continue a tough 16-games-in-16-days stretch, Lauer will temporarily stay in the rotation to hopefully give the other starters some extra rest. Trevor Story is probably excited for today’s game, as he owns a lifetime .500 average against the lefty in 14 at-bats, including two homers and nine RBIs.
The Brewers don’t have much history against González, as only Kolten Wong (.167) and Luis Urías (.200) have seen the Rockies righty more than once. Meanwhile, Colorado’s hitters have had some looks at Lauer in the past. If you thought Trevor Story’s numbers were good, check out Charlie Blackmon’s .611(!!) average in 18 at-bats, including two long balls. Ryan McMahon is 2-for-4, and Garrett Hampson is 1-for-5.
Of course Raimel Tapia will be a focus for Sunday’s game as well, as he looks to extend is 16-game hitting streak. Expect him to be a factor, and to have eaten rice, chicken, and beans prior to gametime.
