After another installment of the Rockies failing to materialize offense on the road, Colorado will look to bounce back and split this two game series with the Seattle Mariners. The Rockies now hold an MLB worst 5-28 record on the road and are on a three game losing skid.
If you’re a fan of high powering offenses, this game may not be for you. As we saw last night, both the Rockies and Mariners have quite a bit of trouble getting hits and producing runs. On the road the Rockies are hitting an almost unbearable .199 but the Mariners aren’t all that much better at home, hitting just .204 as a team at T-Mobile Park. Therefore, like last night, the game will most likely be decided on just a couple of swings.
The guy responsible for missing those bats for the Rockies will be Germán Márquez (5-6, 4.26 ERA). Márquez will be making his 16th start of the season and is coming off of an outstanding outing against the Brewers when he threw a one-hitter through six innings before exiting the game due to cramps. Márquez has looked stellar through many outings this season but has had four different starts where he’s given up four or more runs. However, through two career starts at T-Mobile Park, Márquez has only allowed three earned runs in 13 innings.
For the Mariners, it’ll be the 25-year-old younger brother of current Rockie Jordan Sheffield, Justus Sheffield (5-6, 5.65 ERA). 2021 has been a struggle for Justus Sheffield as he’s given up at least two runs in eleven of his twelve starts. He’s coming off of what might have been his worst start of the year when he gave up a season high seven earned runs in just five innings against the Twins. Sheffield only has one previous start against the Rockies which came on August 9th of last year when he threw six shutout innings in a win against... Germán Márquez. Here’s to better luck this year.
