Colorado Rockies game no. 90 thread: Germán Márquez vs Joe Musgrove

All-Star Márquez looks to pick up a road win in San Diego

After dropping game one in San Diego, the Colorado Rockies turn to their ace and All-Star Germán Márquez in game two. Kyle Freeland put together a solid start last night but the offense was unable to gain any traction and the Rockies lost to the San Diego Padres.

Tonight, Germán Márquez (7-6, 3.59 ERA) looks to lead the Rockies to their eighth road win of the year against a very strong Padres squad. Márquez has been outstanding in his last four starts, allowing three runs on nine hits in 29 innings of work. His performance hasn’t gone unnoticed as he will be representing the Rockies in the All-Star game at Coors Field on Tuesday evening.

In twelve career games against the Padres, Márquez has a 5-3 record and a 5.14 ERA in 61 13 innings pitched. He has yet to face them this year and will have his hands full against one of the more electric lineups in baseball, led by Fernando Tatís Jr. Márquez will surely be up for the challenge in his last bid to show why he should be considered as a potential starter for the National League on Tuesday.

For the Padres, Joe Musgrove (5-6, 2.97 ERA) gets the call on Saturday evening. Musgrove is coming off of one of his worst starts of the year. He allowed five runs on seven hits in five innings of work against the Washington Nationals on July 5th. Musgrove has excelled in his career against the Rockies, posting a 1.80 ERA and a 2-1 record over 20 innings pitched.
