After a thrilling come-from-behind victory, complete with another Los Angeles Dodgers collapse, the Colorado Rockies look to take game two in LA.
Kyle Freeland (1-4, 5.36 ERA) will take the mound for the visiting Rockies. His last start was at home against these same Dodgers and he was saddled with the loss after allowing three runs on six hits in his six innings of work.
He will look to continue building on the resurgence he’s mounted over his last five starts and keep the menacing Dodgers lineup at bay. Freeland has faced Los Angeles 13 times in his career and is 2-6 with a 4.42 ERA against them in his 69 innings of work.
For the Dodgers, Tony Gonsolin (1-1, 2.83 ERA) will take the mound coming off a start in which he allowed three runs on five hits in 31⁄3 innings of work against the San Francisco Giants. In three games (two starts) against the Rockies, Gonsolin is 0-1 with a 2.40 ERA in 15 innings of work.
Gonsolin has appeared for the Dodgers eight times this year and has started seven games, but has only pitched at least five innings one time. Gonsolin has bounced around between being a starter, reliever, and opener in his time as a Dodgers pitcher, but injuries and other issues have limited the Los Angeles starting rotation and opened the door for him to be a full-on starter since June. The Rockies will look to take advantage of the quick hook that Dave Roberts has had for Gonsolin and get into the bullpen early.
