Colorado Rockies game no. 100 thread: Germán Márquez vs. Shohei Ohtani

We finally get to see the matchup that should’ve started the All-Star Game

After winning a crazy game on Friday (and earning their tenth road win!), the road Rockies (43-56) unfortunately went on to lose back-to-back heartbreaking games to the Dodgers. They will stay in LA, but they will be facing the other team in town — the 49-49 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Prior to tonight’s matchup, the Angels are coming off of a three-of-four series win against the Twins after getting two-game swept by the A’s. Tonight’s matchup will feature an exquisite pitching matchup, one that should’ve been the starting matchup in the All-Star Game two weeks ago.

On the bump for the Rockies is right-hander Germán Márquez (8-7, 3.50 ERA). In his one start since the ASG, Márquez faced the Seattle Mariners on July 20. He threw six innings and allowed four runs on seven hits, including a two-run homer to second baseman Dylan Moore in the sixth inning. He also walked two and struck out five.

Opposing Márquez is Angels’ superstar Shohei Ohtani (4-1, 3.21 ERA). The right-hander is also coming off an All-Star Game appearance in which he was the starting pitcher, starting DH, and Home Run Derby participant. Ohtani has also made one start since the Break, and pitched six innings of three-hit, shutout baseball against the Oakland A’s. He walked one and struck out eight in that appearance, but the Angels eventually lost the game 4-1.
