Following a dominating victory on Friday night, the Colorado Rockies will look to pick up game three of the series against the Padres tonight in San Diego.
The Rockies will send their All-Star to the mound as Germán Márquez (8-8, 3.54) gets the call. Márquez has looked human since the break, going 0-2 with a 5.11 ERA in his two starts after a historic stretch leading into the break that saw him flirt with a no-hitter and 4-0 with a 0.75 ERA over five starts.
Márquez will be facing a Padres team that he has thrown against 13 times in his career, mounting a 6-3 record while sporting a 4.61 ERA. This includes his one outing against the Padres this year, in which he allowed no runs no three hits in his six innings of work, keeping the San Diego offense off-balance throughout his appearance.
The Padres will counter with their own All-Star, Yu Darvish (7-5, 3.27), to complete the marquis pitching matchup. Darvish is in the midst of his worst stretch of the season, going winless since June 21st, and has yet to post a quality start in July. In his last outing, Darvish allowed four runs on five hits over five innings of work while taking the loss against the Miami Marlins.
Darvish has faced the Rockies eight times in his career, posting a 1-3 record on a 5.53 ERA over the course of those appearances. This will be his fourth time facing the Rockies this year and he has gone 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in his first three starts against them this season.
