Colorado Rockies game no. 85 thread: Carlos Martínez vs Germán Márquez

The blistering hot home Rockies have a chance to swipe a series win from Nolan Arenado and the Cardinals

With their 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals last night, the Colorado Rockies have 30 wins at home. Only two other teams in Major League Baseball have 30 or more wins at home: the San Diego Padres and the Chicago White Sox. Now the Rockies look for number 31 and a series win against Nolan Arenado and his Redbirds to continue being one of baseball’s best home teams.

Staff ace Germán Márquez is on the mound for the Rockies, looking to build off an excellent June where he had an ERA of 2.41 (lowering his season ERA to 3.62) in 41 innings. He struck out 32, walked nine, and had just one game where he allowed more than one run. His last time out, Márquez held the Pittsburgh Pirates hitless through eight innings, threw a 92-pitch and one-hit complete game shutout, and faced just one batter above the minimum.

On the bump for the Cardinals is the right-handed Carlos Martínez, who enters today’s game with an ERA of 6.38 in 15 starts. Martínez had a rough June, with an ERA of 10.87 through six starts and 25 23 innings. The Rockies last faced him on May 8th in St. Louis, where he gave up five earned runs and walked five.
