For Rockies fans, this season is like being stuck on the same roller coaster for over four months. The highs are high with some fun moments, but the lows conjure that feeling where you wonder when the last time the roller coaster was inspected and begin to worry that the car might fly off the rails or that the structure is just going to crumble to the ground.
So, here we go again.
The Rockies have been riding high, winning six of their last seven, two of which came in the form of walk-off wins thanks to Elias Díaz. Three of those wins came over Nolan Arenado and the Cardinals, which felt even more exhilarating.
But now it’s time to hit the road, where the Rockies are 6-31. Will the roller coaster begin a downward spiral again? Or can the momentum keep the good times rolling? On the bright side, the Rockies (37-48) begin the six-game road trip against the MLB’s worst team, the Arizona Diamondbacks (23-63).
Jon Gray (5-6, 3.89 ERA) will be making the start for the Rockies, his third since returning to the rotation after straining his right flexor. He’s only given up two runs on seven hits with 15 strikeouts and four walks in his 11 innings of work since returning. The Rockies bullpen also got a welcome addition on Tuesday, with Mychal Givens returning from the IL.
The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have reinstated right-handed pitcher Mychal Givens from the 10-day injured list and have optioned left-handed pitcher Ben Bowden to Triple-A.

The Rockies will face off against Arizona’s Merrill Kelly (5-7, 4.67 ERA), who has won his last three starts, giving up only four runs in 20 innings with one walk and 12 strikeouts.
