Colorado Rockies game no. 120 thread: Matt Strahm vs. Germán Márquez

Márquez looks to get back on track and secure Colorado a series win

After yesterday’s dramatic finish, the Colorado Rockies now look to secure the series win with their ace on the mound. The Padres on the other hand continue to struggle as they’ve watched their lead for the second wild card position dwindle since the All-Star break.

One of the reasons the Padres have struggled so much as of late is that their rotation has thinned and those that are healthy have not pitched well. As a result, starting today’s game for the Padres will be the left hander Matt Strahm (0-0, 8.44 ERA). Strahm, primarily a reliever, will be making his first start of the season. Strahm began the 2021 season on the IL with a torn right patella tendon. He was just activated earlier this month on Aug. 3rd and has only pitched 5 13 innings. Strahm did have a strong 2020 in which he allowed just six runs in 20 23 innings while striking out 15 batters to just four walks. In 7 13 career innings at Coors Field, Strahm holds a 9.82 ERA including three home runs.

For the Rockies, it’ll be their first time All-Star Germán Márquez (10-9, 3.77 ERA). Márquez will be looking to get back on track after giving up seven runs to the Giants last week. In his 14 career games against the Friars, Márquez holds just a 4.48 ERA. However, in this year’s two starts against the Padres, he has only allowed two runs in 13 total innings. Like most of the starters this year, Márquez is very comfortable pitching at 20th and Blake this season as he has a 3.05 ERA in 14 games. We’ll see what he can do today.
